The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) invalidated a series of transactions involving JLS Realty Pvt Ltd, including the transfer of a prime redevelopment land parcel in Mumbai to Spenta Suncity and a mortgage and corporate guarantee linked to Rs 525 crore in financing involving IIFL. In an order pronounced on October 23, the Mumbai bench of the tribunal also invalidated the appointment of two IIFL-linked employees as directors, declared the attempted removal of an existing director illegal, reversed disputed share transfers and ordered restoration of the company's land. The Bench, comprising Judicial Member K R Saji Kumar and Technical Member Anil Raj Chellan, held that the sequence of events was "demonstrative of a deliberate design", constituting oppression marked by a "lack of probity and fair dealing". The ruling follows five years of litigation initiated by Moniveda Consultants LLP and Rajat Jhunjhunwala against Shajas Developers, JLS Realty, and other respondents. The dispu View More

As hospitals grapple with soaring costs in drugs, supplies, and labor, the integration of AI emerges as a vital necessity. View More

Hospitals face rising drug, supply and labour expenses while demand for care continues to grow. In this environment, AI is no longer merely an innovation line item. It must become a balance-sheet strategy. The boardroom question is simple: Which costs will it reduce, which outcomes will it improve, and when will the benefits materialise? Start where the money leaks: the revenue cycle Revenue-cycle management offers some of AI’s most immediate opportunities: eligibility verification, clinical coding, prior authorisation, denial prediction and payment reconciliation. Agentic AI goes further than chatbots: governed software agents can coordinate tasks across systems, flag exceptions and prepare claims for human approval. India illustrates the scale. IRDAI data for FY2024–25 show Rs 1,32,488 crore in health claims, of which Rs 94,248 crore was paid; Rs 18,521 crore was disallowed under policy terms, Rs 11,412 crore repudiated and Rs 8,307 crore pending. AI can improve documentation and reduce preventable errors, but it cannot legitimately eliminate contractual exclusions or coverage limits. That distinction matters: better collections must not mean inappropriate billing. Live Events And the competitive pressure is real. As Reuters reported in March 2026, insurers and providers are both deploying AI in reimbursement disputes. Without common standards and auditable decisions, automation risks becoming an expensive “bot-versus-bot” contest. Buying back clinician time, not merely cutting jobs Clinical documentation is another major cost centre. A randomised UCLA trial involving 238 physicians found that one ambient AI scribe reduced time spent writing notes by 9.5% compared with usual care; a second tool produced no statistically significant benefit. Evidence, therefore, supports selective deployment, not universal promises. The return on AI scribes may emerge through lower burnout, improved retention, more patient-facing time and more complete records, not necessarily more consultations per hour. Hospitals should measure staff experience alongside productivity and safety. From hospital beds to intelligent capacity The greatest gains may come from using existing infrastructure better. AI can predict admissions, identify likely discharges 24–48 hours in advance, optimise operating-theatre schedules and flag deterioration before costly escalation. A theatre slot recovered or an avoidable hospital day prevented creates capacity without constructing another building. Yet every model needs local validation: false alarms can overwhelm clinical teams and poorly designed discharge incentives can compromise care. Non-labour costs are equally consequential. Forecasting can reduce drug expiry and emergency purchases; predictive maintenance can limit CT and MRI downtime; contract analytics can detect overpayments; and building systems can reduce energy consumption. These gains are less glamorous than diagnostic AI, but often easier to translate into operating cash flow. The new development: AI is becoming clinical infrastructure The US FDA reported more than 1,600 authorised AI-enabled medical devices by September 2026, spanning imaging, cardiovascular care and other specialties. This signals progress from experimental algorithms towards regulated clinical products, not proof that every deployment delivers savings. India has its own examples. Apollo Hospitals reported 20 clinical AI algorithms in FY2025–26 and more than 3.5 million patient API interactions across AI-led pathways, including discharge prediction, early-warning systems and risk assessment. Combined with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’s interoperable data infrastructure, such capabilities could help smaller hospitals extend scarce specialist capacity-if integration, privacy and affordability are addressed. The next leap is multimodal and agentic AI: systems that combine notes, scans, laboratory results and operational data, then help coordinate follow-up, referrals and discharge. Their value lies not in replacing clinical judgement but in connecting fragmented workflows, with clinicians accountable for consequential decisions. Why the gap could become existential AI-enabled hospitals may collect faster, use beds more efficiently, attract digitally supported clinicians and offer patients clearer, quicker journeys. These advantages could influence investment and patient choice, although lower valuations for non-adopters are a risk, not an established universal rule. More importantly, the gap may compound as high-performing organisations improve their data quality and execution. Expectations, however, are ahead of evidence. Deloitte reports that 98% of surveyed healthcare executives anticipate at least 10% cost savings from agentic AI within two to three years, and 37% expect over 20%. Those are forecasts, not realised savings. Implementation costs, cybersecurity, bias, hallucinations, interoperability and ongoing model monitoring belong in every return-on-investment calculation. What boards should do now Start with six baselines: cost to collect, denial rate, length of stay, theatre utilisation, agency staffing costs and preventable adverse events. Select three high-value use cases; run controlled evaluations; calculate net savings after integration and oversight; and make vendor payments contingent on independently measured performance. Keep clinical safety, consent, auditability and human accountability non-negotiable. Hospitals that measure its impact on both patient outcomes and the balance sheet will be better placed to expand sustainable capacity. The real transformation in a hospital will be the one, that leverages AI to deliver better care with less waste. AI will not fix a broken business model on its own. But whether on a 1.4% margin in the US or with nearly a quarter of claim value going unpaid in India, every point it recovers decides whether a hospital attracts investment and patients, or loses both. Rajendra Pratap Gupta is the architect of the Functional AI Pyramid – AI Maturity Mode & the Theory of Technology Value and the three laws of elimination. He is building the hospital at the future at Global Digital Health Summit. .Pbanner{display:flex;justify-content:space-between;align-items:center;background-color:#ec1c40;margin-top:20px;padding:5px 10px;border-radius:4px;color:#fff;line-height:10px;width: 100%;box-sizing: border-box} .Pbannertext{display:flex;align-items:center;font-size:16px;font-weight:600;font-family:'Montserrat';} .Pbannertext img{height:20px;margin:0 6px} .Pbannerbutton a{display:flex;align-items:center;background-color:#fff;color:#ec1c40;text-decoration:none;font-weight:600;padding:4px 8px;border-radius:6px;font-size:15px;font-family:'Montserrat';} .Pbannerbutton img{height:20px;margin-right:6px} .Pbannerbutton a:hover{background-color:#f7f7f7} Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
